Pulp Fiction film analysis

A gallery of characters both archetypal and original (hitmen, boxers, seductive women, drug dealers, crime bosses, hostage-taking thugs…), a small number of plots rich in drama of all kinds (murder, rape, robbery, overdose, love story…) set up in a complex plan that blurs chronology, all treated in an ironic, acidic fashion. These are the main ingredients of Pulp Fiction’s excellent screenplay, a low-budget film that was a box-office smash.

Story&Drama analyzes the story of Pulp Fiction, first by following the film sequence by sequence and scene by scene, then by reconstructing the plots, editing, characters and their actantial and thematic roles, genres (film noir, gangster film, “pulp fiction”…) and themes (drugs, violence, city life…).

For both beginners and experienced screenwriters, it’s interesting and instructive to engage in a detailed narrative analysis of a very well-conceived work: you’ll immediately understand better how the dramatic mechanics work, how tension and suspense are built up, and how the characters gain in complexity according to the roles you have them play in various plots.

In this way, you acquire the technical know-how of any good narrator.
